Tracking to the front of the competition, a 13-inch tricolor female Beagle, FCB Bee Lick Bamboo, won the 13th annual Purina Brace Beagle Derby Award out of 372 hounds competing. “Bamboo” stood out by winning the Derby field trials at the Midwestern, International and Northeastern Federations and by taking second at the Heartland and third at the Eastern. Having finished her Field Champion title at 11 months old, Bamboo has proved her keen desire and superior tracking ability to co-owners Marty Parker, the handler, of Taylorsville, Kentucky, and Niki Happel of Pittsburgh. Parker, a member of the Brace Beagling Hall of Fame, has been involved in the sport for 55 years, and Happel is a third-generation beagler who grew up going to field trials. Bamboo is fed Purina Pro Plan SPORT Performance 30/20 Formula.
