2018 Purina Outstanding Derby Field Trial Retriever Award
A small but mighty female Labrador Retriever named “Rascal” has emerged onto the retriever field trial scene with a bang by earning 69 points this past season to capture the 16th Annual Purina Outstanding Derby Field Trial Retriever Award. Rascal, who just turned 2 years old and whose formal name is Oldsquaw’s Little Rascal, finished the year with nine wins and 20 placements from 43 starts in Derby stakes, outperforming more than 1,000 dogs.
“Rascal is a talented animal with incredible memory and focus. Time after time, after she’s done running a test, all I can say is ‘wow.’ I’ve never had another dog like her,” says breeder-owner-handler Frank Purdy of Dowling, Michigan, a first-time Purina Award winner after 50 years in the sport, who co-owns Rascal with his wife Sheila. “It’s an honor to have bred such a wonderful dog. Rascal is a joy to train and a thrill to run.” Among Rascal’s other Derby accomplishments, besides having placed in nearly half of the Derby stakes she’s been entered, she was a finalist in the 2018 National Derby Retriever Championship in Sedalia, Missouri, having completed all 10 series of challenging marks.
Rascal is fed Purina Pro Plan SPORT Performance 30/20 Formula.
