2017 Purina Outstanding Field Trial Retriever Award
Consistency was key for a Labrador Retriever called “Zuma” (FC Magic Trick’s Zuma) to rebound from an injury and successfully navigate a demanding field trial campaign that culminated with capturing the 34th Annual Purina Outstanding Field Trial Retriever Award. After being sidelined for the 2015 season from a strained supraspinatus tendon and bouncing back the following year, Zuma returned a strong contender in 2017 under pro handler Greg Bartlett of Centerview, Missouri. The duo’s special connection was evident throughout the yearlong competition, resulting in four wins and 38.5 points.
“Zuma is a team player and level-headed competitor with the innate ability to solve complex tests week after week. It’s been a pleasure to train and compete with this special dog,” says Bartlett. “Winning the Purina Award is the pinnacle of one’s field trial career and demonstrates consistency during a year of tough competition against some of the country’s top dogs and handlers.” Bred by Robert Hayward of Oregon, Wisconsin, the 9-year-old male is owned by Dr. David Aul of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
