About Dr. Peggy Root Kustritz

Peggy Root Kustritz, DVM, PhD, DACT, retired in 2025 after working nearly 40 years at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine as professor of small-animal reproduction and assistant dean of education. After graduating from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987, she worked in small-animal private practice for several years, then returned to the university to complete a residency in theriogenology. She became board-certified in theriogenology in 1994 and completed a doctorate degree in theriogenology in 1995. Dr. Root is the author of several books about small-animal theriogenology written for veterinarians and for dog breeders, including “The Dog Breeder’s Guide to Successful Breeding and Health Management.”
