A stylish 2 ½-year-old male Havanese named “Bono” put on the glitz with his lively personality and springy stroll down the red-carpet runway to win Best in Show at the third annual “Beverly Hills Dog Show Presented by Purina.” One of six Group First winners fed Purina Pro Plan, the sweet little dog shined with his spirited performance.

The No. 1 all-breed dog in the country (Canine Chronicle system), No. 1 Toy dog, and No. 1 Havanese in all systems, Multi-BIS/Multi-BISS GCH Oeste’s In The Name Of Love is the top-winning Havanese in breed history. Campaigned by handler Taffe McFadden of Acampo, California, Bono excelled from the beginning, taking nine Bests in Show in 2018, plus Best of Breed at the Havanese Club of America National Specialty. The winning has continued in 2019, starting with his capturing Reserve Best in Show and Toy Group First at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, as well as numerous Bests in Show.

"Bono has a darling, beguiling face and expression that absolutely melts hearts," McFadden says. "He’s the essence of the breed, winning you over with his looks and personality."

Bred by the husband and wife team of Rafe H. Schindler and Mary E. King of Menlo Park, California, along with Julie Vogel of Norman, Oklahoma, and McFadden, Bono comes from a successful breeding partnership. His aunt, Multi-RBIS/Multi-BISS GCH Oeste’s Flirt’N With An Outlaw ROM, was the No. 1 Havanese in all systems in 2013. The handsome Havanese is co-owned by Bruce and Patrina Odette of Denver and his breeders.

Best in Show judge Betty-Anne Stenmark of Grass Valley, California, made her pick from a stellar lineup. Over 1,500 dogs representing 200 breeds and varieties competed at the show hosted by the Kennel Club of Beverly Hills.
The third annual Beverly Hills Dog Show Presented by Purina aired on NBC on Easter Sunday, April 21 at noon Central time. Celebrity co-hosts David Frei and John O’Hurley provided entertaining commentary. The pair have worked together for 17 years as co-hosts of “The National Dog Show Presented by Purina,” which is telecast on Thanksgiving Day. The Beverly Hills Dog Show was introduced in 2017 to add a West Coast event to the holiday tradition of dog shows.

Bono is the third consecutive Best in Show winner of the Beverly Hills Dog Show to be fed Purina Pro Plan. Past winners are “King” (GCH King Arthur van Foliny Home), a Wire Fox Terrier who won in 2018 and went on to win Best in Show at the 2019 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, and “Ripcord” (GCH Fidelis Ripcord DS WAE CGC), a Doberman Pinscher who won in 2017.
