Nestlé Purina® Continues Long-standing Commitment to Canine Health

Nestlé Purina continues its long-standing support of canine health with recent donations to the AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF) for the 17th consecutive year. Combined, the 2013 donations represent more than $1 million and make a significant impact on the health concerns of all dogs.

”Purina is proud to partner with the AKC Canine Health Foundation,” says Ann Viklund, Director of Conformation, Breeder-Enthusiast Group, and a member of the CHF Board of Directors. “We share a commitment to improve the lives of dogs and their owners everywhere through our support of health research.”

From the Affenpinscher Club of America to the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, 187 national parent breed clubs participated in the Purina Parent Club Partnership (PPCP) Program in 2012, contributing more than $227,000 to the AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF). The donation represents half of the 2012 PPCP earnings. An equal donation was shared among the participating parent clubs.

Established in 2002, the PPCP Program enables Purina Pro Club members who participate in the program to designate a breed of dog and submit weight circles (similar to proofs of purchase) from qualifying Purina brand dog foods. An annual donation based on the value of the submitted weight circles is split between the parent clubs’ Donor Advised Funds (DAF) at the AKC Canine Health Foundation for canine health research and the parent clubs for education, rescue and other efforts. The PPCP Program has raised more than $2.4 million for canine health research in important areas such as cancer, epilepsy, cruciate ligament rupture, bloat, exercise induced collapse, tick-borne disease, and more.

Nestlé Purina also continues its dedication to the CHF mission with a corporate gift of $800,000. Contributing over $10 million since 1997, Nestlé Purina has made an important commitment to the health of all dogs and their owners by helping fund sound, scientific canine health research.

“Nestlé Purina has been a vital and committed partner in our mission. With their long-term support, CHF has made substantial strides in providing better treatments, more accurate diagnoses, and a deeper understanding of the mechanisms that cause disease in areas such as oncology, cardiology, infectious disease, and musculoskeletal health,” says Terry Warren, Chief Executive Officer of CHF.
