Purina officials recently presented the AKC Canine Health Foundation with a donation of $220,746. The gift, which is based on participation in the 2013 Purina Parent Club Partnership (PPCP) Program, will be used for canine health research.   

Elite Trainers and Handlers Attend 2014 Sporting Dog Summit

St. Louis, Missouri, August 20, 2014 … Some of the country’s top dog handlers and trainers, as well as sporting dog journalists, recently were treated to tips on ways to enhance canine performance success by experts at the 2014 Purina® Sporting Dog Summit. The two-and-a-half day program, titled “Achieving a Performance Edge,” was held at the Purina Event Center in Gray Summit, Mo., July 28-30.

RU CH Tibercreeks Billy the Kid took Runner-Up at the NVA Eastern Shooting Dog Championship with two finds and a back within the one-hour stake. Bred and owned by Mark Calder, “Pete,” a 4 ½-year-old male Vizsla, is handled by Jaime Fountain.

The bright TV lights during “The National Dog Show Presented by Purina” didn’t outshine “Gia,” a 4-year-old blue brindle female Greyhound. Handled by pro handler Rindi Gaudet, Multi-BIS/Multi-RBIS Brazilian, PANAM, Int, FCI, GCH GrandCru Giaconda CGC dazzled the crowd and judge James Reynolds to earn Best in Show and become the sixth consecutive Purina® Pro Plan®-fueled National Dog Show winner.

“Gia has so much breed type. Her head, neck and expression are beautiful,” Reynolds said. “She is a good galloping hound, as a Greyhound should be.”

Santa Barbara Kennel Club Dog Show & Breeders Showcase

GCH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect, the No. 2 dog in the country, dominated the weekend with three Bests in Show, including shows held by the Simi Valley and Santa Barbara kennel clubs. The 3-year-old male Old English Sheepdog called “Swagger” is breeder-owner-handled by Colton Johnson.

Just weeks away from the prestigious 140th annual Westminster Kennel Club (WKC) Dog Show on Feb. 15 and 16 in New York City, Purina® Pro Plan® fans can’t wait to learn whether a 10th consecutive Purina® Pro Plan®-fed dog captures Best in Show.

Purina is the newest corporate member of the USA Rice/Ducks Unlimited (DU) Rice Stewardship Partnership. Through a $2 million commitment over four years, Purina’s investment in the Rice Stewardship Partnership will help keep working ricelands healthy, preserve wetlands and create habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife.

“Farmers, their dogs and waterfowl have long been part of our conservation heritage,” says Dale Hall, DU CEO. “Purina already is a great partner with DU, and we’re proud they’re joining us in our rice industry support and conservation mission.”

A long-standing commitment shared by Purina and members of national parent breed clubs to support canine health research has helped raise $3.07 million since 2002. Linked to research funded by the AKC Canine Health Foundation, the Purina Parent Club Partnership (PPCP) Program is credited with contributing to the discoveries of the causes of many canine diseases.

United Kennel Club (UKC) Purina National Championship

Two Purina® Pro Plan®-fed coonhounds won both overall titles at the UKC Purina National Nite Hunt and Bench Show.

GR NITE CH CH Stoners Lightning Jack was the Overall Nite Hunt Champion. Owned by Ronnie Stoner, this 5-year-old male English Coonhound is handled by Jeremy Smyser.

Millions of people watched as “Nathan” the Bloodhound (GCH Flessner’s International S’Cess) proudly displayed his fun personality and childlike antics during “The National Dog Show Presented by Purina” Thanksgiving Day on NBC. After taking his daily stretch in front of judge Edd Bivin, Nathan’s sense of humor paid off as he captured Best in Show under breeder-owner-handler Heather Helmer.

“Nathan’s swinging gait, entertaining personality and nicely wrinkled skin are true to breed type, and that’s what it’s all about,” said Bivin.
