Endurance and exceptional bird-finding ability helped Awsum Country Girl, a 3-year-old white and liver female Pointer handled by George Tracy of Glenville, Penn., and scouted by his son, Mike Tracy, to win the 2014 National Open Shooting Dog Championship. His win with “Zeva” marks the fourth time George Tracy has handled the winning dog at the national competition.

Fast on the ground, Zeva worked to the front and found an outstanding 11 quail coveys during the 90-minute horseback stake. “She always finds a lot of game and she’s got a lot of stamina,” says George Tracy.

On February 8, 2014 at the Show Dogs of the Year Awards, the 2013 Purina Pro Plan Champions Cup was awarded to GCH AfterAll Painting The Sky, the 5-year-old female Wire Fox Terrier who earned 394 points at Purina-sponsored all-breed dog shows throughout the yearlong competition. Accepting the award on behalf of Team “Sky” are, from left, co-owner Victor Malzoni Jr., co-owner Mary Olund, handler Gabriel Rangel, co-owner Diane Ryan, Purina Director of Conformation Ann Viklund, handler Ivonne Rangel, and Purina Senior Area Manager Connie Wagner. Congratulations!

Unbelievable back-to-back National Championship wins were earned by Shadow Oak Bo, an orange-and-white ticked 8-year-old male English Setter handled by Robin Gates of Leesburg, Ga., and scouted by Luke Eisenhart of Tiskilwa, Ill., in February at Ames Plantation in Grand Junction, Tenn. This Purina® Pro Plan®-fueled setter ended a 43-year streak of Pointers winning the event in 2013, and then returned with a strong performance that included seven quail finds to win this year’s stake.

Purina officials recently presented the AKC Canine Health Foundation with a donation of $220,746. The gift, which is based on participation in the 2013 Purina Parent Club Partnership (PPCP) Program, will be used for canine health research.   

Elite Trainers and Handlers Attend 2014 Sporting Dog Summit

St. Louis, Missouri, August 20, 2014 … Some of the country’s top dog handlers and trainers, as well as sporting dog journalists, recently were treated to tips on ways to enhance canine performance success by experts at the 2014 Purina® Sporting Dog Summit. The two-and-a-half day program, titled “Achieving a Performance Edge,” was held at the Purina Event Center in Gray Summit, Mo., July 28-30.

RU CH Tibercreeks Billy the Kid took Runner-Up at the NVA Eastern Shooting Dog Championship with two finds and a back within the one-hour stake. Bred and owned by Mark Calder, “Pete,” a 4 ½-year-old male Vizsla, is handled by Jaime Fountain.

Saluki Club of America National Specialty

GCH As You Like It took Best of Breed at the 2015 Saluki Club of America National Specialty. The 5-year-old male called “Jesse” is handled by breeder-owner Mary White and Richard Worden. Jesse is powered by Purina® Pro Plan® SPORT Performance 30/20 Chicken & Rice Formula.

American Rabbit Hunters Association (ARHA) US Championship
March 12-15, 2015

Lynnville, Indiana

A Beagle known as“Buck” won the ARHA U.S. Championship Open Class. Handled by owner Blake Turner, Turner’s Buck also is co-owned by Donnie Turner.

Taking the Champion Class was “Dottie” (Lincoln Ridge Dottie), a 13-inch female Beagle owned and handled by Lance McCarthy.

“Train” (Spark’s Oak Ridge Train) won the Grand Champion Class under owner-handler Donnie Joe Sparks.
