‘Pip’ Wins 2019 English Springer Spaniel National Open Championship
A 5 ½-year-old female named “Pip” is the winner of the 2019 English Springer Spaniel National Open Championship. Handled by owner Mike Elsasser of West Chester, Ohio, NFC-FC-AFC-CAFC Coal’s Creek Practically Perfect topped 121 English Springer Spaniels to win the National Open held in November in Pretty Prairie, Kansas.
“It takes a talented dog, teamwork and some luck to win a National field trial,” says Elsasser, who was named the Best Amateur Handler. “Pip did a nice job the whole trial and took advantage of a couple of opportunities to show off her abilities.”
The National Open consists of five land series and two water series, in which dogs are judged on their ability to find and retrieve pheasants. Winning his first National Open Championship, Elsasser, who has been in the game since 1974, says he enjoys the loyalty of English Springers. The 2019 National Open Champion is fed Purina Pro Plan SPORT Performance 30/20 Salmon & Rice Formula dog food.
