Not even an injury could keep “Grace,” a small dog with sheer grit and a big heart, from capturing the fifth annual Purina Derby Top Field Trial Bird Dog Award. With just a few trials to go in the season, an unexplainable foot injury caused lameness in her front paw and threatened to sideline Pendy’s Good Grace from the remainder of the yearlong competition, but the orange-and-white Pointer exceeded expectations and recovered to take Runner-Up at the American Derby Invitational Championship, helping her to clinch the Purina Award with 836 points. The 2-year-old female is owned by breeder Jim Pendergest of Lexington, Kentucky, with his son, Matt, who handles the dog with pro Luke Eisenhart of Albany, Georgia, the 2016-2017 Purina Top All-Age Handler. “Grace gives it her all regardless of the terrain, weather and conditions,” says Matt Pendergest, the first Purina Award winner in three generations of field trialers in the Pendergest family. “She glides effortlessly and is unhindered by any obstacle.” Grace is fed Purina Pro Plan SPORT Performance 30/20 Formula.
