2018 Purina Outstanding Amateur Field Trial Retriever Award
A magical field trial season that included two double header wins on back-to-back weekends came to a thrilling finish for a 7-year-old Labrador Retriever called “George” (FC-AFC Wood River’s Mr Big), having been named the 2018 Purina Outstanding Amateur Field Trial Retriever. George completed the yearlong competition with 36 points from four wins and 10 placements, outperforming more than 1,600 retrievers, under owner-handler Bill Fruehling of Ketchum, Idaho.
“George is a real thrill to handle. He’s an exceptional marker and runs stick-straight blinds. He’s a consistent dog, and when he advances to the last series of a trial, there’s a strong chance he’s going to place,” said Fruehling, who co-owns George with his wife Gay. “Winning the Purina Award makes all of the long training days and countless hours spent on the road traveling to trials worthwhile.” Among his other accomplishments, George, bred by Michael and Karen Tierney of Hillsboro, Oregon, also qualified for the 2018 National Amateur and Open Championships.
George is fed Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets JM Joint Mobility Formula.
