2018-2019 Purina Top Shooting Dog Amateur Award
There was no quit in a hard-charging, consistent white-and-black Pointer named “Billy Jack,” who dominated the highly competitive bird dog field trial circuit to capture the 2018-2019 Purina Top Shooting Dog Amateur Award. The 5-year-old male, whose registered name is Waybetter Billy, capped the yearlong race with 1,572 points from six placements at field trials across the country, outperforming 73 dogs also contending for the highly coveted Purina Award. Bred by Carl Bishop of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Billy Jack is owned and handled by Thomas Brigman Jr. of Rose Hill, North Carolina.
Winning this Purina Award was especially meaningful for Brigman Jr., as Billy Jack was the last dog owned by his father and fellow avid field trialer Thomas Brigman Sr., who passed away while Billy Jack was still a puppy and just starting his field trial career. Brigman Jr., now a three-time Purina Award winner, says, “Billy Jack is laidback at home, but when he gets to the field, he turns it on. He starts and finishes every trial the same way, cranked up and always to the front. There’s no slowing down or quitting until the trial’s done.”
Billy Jack is fed Purina Pro Plan SPORT Performance 30/20 Formula.
