2017-2018 Purina Top Shooting Dog Award
Despite a slow start to the 2017-2018 season, an athletic, level-headed white-and-liver Pointer named “Bolt” and handler Shawn Kinkelaar of Effingham, Illinois, clicked as a team and went on a tear, winning six Championships in a three-month span toward the end of the season to erase a major point deficit and capture the Purina Top Shooting Dog Award. As the 2016-2017 Purina Top Shooting Dog, Bolt, who is formally known as Chelsea’s Thunder Bolt, improved on his winning total this season by 237 points, garnering 2,792 points from eight points-earning placements, including seven wins, topping 85 dogs.
“Bolt is a natural bird finder with effortless endurance. He hunts independently, yet stays in synch with me,” says Kinkelaar, who has handled five different dogs to a record-setting 10 Purina Top Shooting Dog Awards throughout his 30-plus-year career. Bred by Brad Sadler of Ridgeland, South Carolina, the 6-year-old male is owned by Dr. Tom Jackson of Columbus, Indiana, and George Hickox of Ochlocknee, Georgia, and Bismarck, North Dakota.
Bolt is fed Purina Pro Plan SPORT Performance 30/20 Formula.
