Boo
Best of Breed at 2008 Pug Dog National Specialty
Multi-BIS CH Tupelo Shoboat Tu China Tu, the No. 1 Pug in the country, won Best of Breed last October at the Pug Dog Club of America National Specialty in Ontario, Calif.
Handled by longtime Broughcastl Pug breeder Doug Huffman of Fenton, Mo., the 2-year-old male Pug was bred by Karin Thompson of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. He is co-owned by Michele Molnar and Jamie Danburg, both of Boca Raton, Fla., along with Ray and Patt Kolesar of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and Huffman.
Boo’s sire, CH Tupelo Triple Crown, has Broughcastl Pugs on both sides of his pedigree, including CH Broughcastl Clark Kent, Huffman’s first big winner and the No. 1 Pug in the country from 1981 to 1983. The dam is CH Regal’s Miss Wynsum In Pink.
Prior to winning Best of Breed at the National, Boo also took Best of Breed at the City of Angels Specialty and at the Pug Dog Club of America Regional Specialty, both held in Ontario, Calif. He also took Best of Breed at Westminster in 2009 and placed second in his group. Boo has started off 2009 as the No. 1 Pug and No. 1 Toy in the country.

Easi
Best of Breed at 2008 Irish Setter Club of America National Specialty
AM/CAN CH Ashton Peaceful Easy Feeling (“Easi”) outperformed over 350 Irish Setters to win Best of Breed last April at the Irish Setter Club of America National Specialty in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The No. 2 Irish Setter in the country, Easi was bred by owners Janet Jenkins-Hylton and Gary Hylton of Knightsen, Calif., and is handled by Jennifer Holmberg of Auburn, Wash. Since the National Specialty, Easi has earned 17 Sporting Group Firsts and recently received her sixth Best in Specialty Show win.
“Everyone says how breathtaking and absolutely gorgeous she is,” Jenkins-Hylton says. “She floats around the ring and thinks everyone is there to appreciate her. Judges are always extremely smitten with her. She really fits her name in every way. Everything about her is easy.”
Easi was sired by AM/CAN CH Mijean’s I Fooled Ya out of AM CH Pin Oak Secret-Lee Ashton, JH. She is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula.

Kimber
Best Veteran Sweepstakes at 2008 Ibizan Hound Club of the United States National Specialty
A 7-year-old Ibizan Hound, CH Davinci Aliki Kiss My Ice, CGC, RN (“Kimber”), won Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Veteran Sweepstakes last May at the Ibizan Hound Club of the United States National Specialty at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Mo.
Co-owned by Christy Shaw and her daughter, Erica Shaw of Simpsonville, Ky., Kimber is handled by Christy Shaw. The Shaws acquired Kimber as a finished champion when she was 4 ½ years old from co-breeder Alice Mirestes of Springdale, Ark. Kimber was sired by CH Gryphons Star Dragon Dancer out of CH Strangedays Ruffienne.
“I wanted to prove you could put obedience titles on an Ibizan Hound,” says Christy Shaw, who handled Kimber to Rally Novice (RN) and Canine Good Citizen (CGC) titles. “Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks.
“People tell me all the time she is a beautiful dog, and they love her size. She carries herself delicately. She has a beautiful head and such an expressive face. She’s elegant and striking.”

Zipper
Best of Breed at 2008 Ibizan Hound Club of the United States National Specialty
Following in her dam’s winning footsteps, 3-year-old BIS/BISS CH HareHill’s Love on the Run (“Zipper”) set a breed record by winning Best of Breed for the third consecutive year last May at the Ibizan Hound Club of the United States National Specialty at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Mo.
Zipper’s dam, BIS/BISS CH Luxor’s Playmate of the Year (“Bunny”), is the top-winning Ibizan Hound in breed history. Bunny was the first Ibizan Hound to win the Hound Group at Westminster, having won the Group in 2003 and 2004. Zipper’s sire is Cinondra’s Desperado de Juarez.
Zipper is co-owned by Wendy Anderson of Burlington, Wis., and Glen Brand of La Crescenta, Calif., who are co-breeders with Caroline Woods of Monteagle, Tenn., and Leslie Lucas of Livermore, Calif. Zipper spent her third consecutive year as No. 1 Ibizan Hound in the country in 2008.
“She goes into the ring, and it’s all about her,” says handler Linda Mattson of Newbury Park, Calif. “I think that’s what makes a great show dog. Every judge has noted her charisma. She can perform in the ring as well as being pretty.”

Paloma
Longhaired Best of Variety at 2008 Chihuahua Club of America National Specialty
Winning the Longhaired Best of Variety last October at the 2008 Chihuahua Club of America National Specialty in Chicago was CH Will-Cm Paloma Blanca.
The 2 ½-year-old white Chihuahua is co-owned and handled by Kenny Saenz of Felton, Pa., along with Ronald W. Readmond of Trappe, Va., and Erika Lanasa of Shrewsbury, Va. Co-bred by Michael Dunnington, Curtis Williams and Darlene Wilson, all of Kennewick, Wash., Paloma was sired by Will-Cm Just Playin’ Skip-Bo-L out of Will-Cm Lady Ehlana O’Camelot-L.
“Paloma has the correct appearance and personality that a Chihuahua is expected to have,” Saenz says. “She has a beautiful silhouette and fabulous movement.”

Trouble
Best of Winner’s and Winner’s Dog at 2008 Labrador Retriever Club National Specialty
Taking Best of Winners last November at the Labrador Retriever Club of America in Newnan, Ga., was CH Gateway’s Nothin’ But Trouble (“Trouble”). The win finished Trouble’s championship.
Trouble is owned by Vicky Creamer of Mount Airy, Md., and was handled by Rusty Howard of Vandalia, Ohio. Bred by Patty Streufert of Millstadt, Ill., Trouble was sired by BISS CH Julsby Hey Good Lookin’ out of CH Gateway’s White Dove.
“Trouble is such a happy boy and loves everyone, and this comes through in the way he shows,” says Creamer. “He’ll stand perfectly in the ring and wag his tail. He is beautifully built with a pretty head that is not overdone.”

Chloe
Best of Opposite Sex at 2008 English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association National Specialty
Winning Best of Opposite Sex last October at the 2008 English Springer Spaniel Field Trail Association National Specialty in Arlington, Texas, was 3-year-old CH Wynmoor Brightwater Timeless.
Co-owned by Ruth Kirby of Tarpon Springs, Fla., David Rand of Falmouth, Maine, Nancy Siver of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Erin Kerfoot of Mineral, Va., “Chloe” was handled by Kellie Fitzgerald of Bear, Del. Kerfoot co-bred Chloe with her parents, Billie and Charlie Kerfoot, also of Mineral, Va. Chloe was sired by CH Telltale Freestyle out of CH Gilchrist Wynmoor Lexus.
“The cream of the crop was at the National Specialty, but Chloe is a lovely package,” says Fitzgerald. “I think she stood out for her excellent movement. It was a big ring and she was able to really move and show herself. Springers by nature are extremely eager to please, and that really comes across in her wonderful attitude and personality.”

Rap
Best of Breed at 2008 Border Collie Society of America National Specialty
A celebrity dog who also is a therapy dog and holds herding titles, CH Brackenhill Touch O Bon-Clyde (“Rap”), was named Best of Breed at the 2008 Border Collie Society of America National Specialty last October at Purina Farms.
Rap outperformed over 200 dogs to win the National. Owner Barbara Buchanan of Sanford, N.C., says, “I was tickled about Rap’s outstanding performance at the National. He is the most amazing, friendly dog. We think he can do just about anything.”
The 6-year-old was co-bred by Linda Mooradian of Naussau, N.Y., and Ann Marie Silverton of Stockton, Calif. The sire is CH Trumagic Touch O Slot, and the dam is CH Brackenhill Wish A Lot. Nick Joines of Sophia, N.C., is the handler.
Rap is a certified therapy dog through Therapy Dog International. He has earned Novice Agility, Novice Fast and Herding Starters titles. In the Southeast, Rap appears frequently in print advertisements and television commercials for companies such as Central Carolina Bank, Boyles Furniture and the National Bank of Commerce. Cast in the upcoming television program “Animal Fan,” Rap has recently been filmed playing a role similar to judges on “American Idol.” Rap is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Chicken & Rice Formula.


Walker
Best Puppy Award at 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club National Specialty
CH Alisaton Walk the Line (“Walker”), won the Best Puppy Award in October at the 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club National Specialty in Topeka, Kan. The 10-month-old is co-owned and was co-bred by Gwen DeMilta, her daughter Carissa DeMilta, both of Downington, Pa., and Sheila Heffner of Elverson, Pa. Walker was sired by CH Cha-Rish Star Quest Blu-Js out of CH Gemstone Ravenna Alisaton Cortina. He is handled by Carissa DeMilta, and fed Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula.
“Walker is from a breeding program that has produced 119 champions,” says Gwen DeMilta of Alisaton Kennels. “He’s got the best of the best behind him and it shows. When he was first born it was clear he was meant to be a champion. He’s amazing in the ring, fully extends and is an all around fabulous mover.”

Zoie
Best Veteran Bitch at 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club of America National Specialty
A red Doberman Pinscher, CH Cadbrae Lady Edenbourgh (“Zoie”), won Best Veteran Bitch in October at the 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club of America National Specialty in Topeka, Kan.
Zoie is co-owned and handled by Jeffery Moore of Nicholson, Ga., and co-owned and bred by Doris-Jean Molin of Gillsville, Ga. The 12-year-old was sired by CH Aquarius Damien V Ravenswood, who spent some time as the No. 1 Doberman during his show days, out of CH Mikadobe’s Gabrielle V XLNC. Molin began breeding in 1934 and operates the oldest champion breeding program in the United States.
“This win was so spectacular,” says Molin. “All the top dogs in the country were there. Zoie is from a very old breeding program and definitely has champion in her bloodline. She has absolutely flawless movement and a ‘never say quit’ attitude. She’s the correct size and breed type. In Zoie I can see some of the old greats, and to have a dog like that sure is nice.” Zoie is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Chicken & Rice Formula.
Mimi
Grand Prize Futurity Winner at 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club National Specialty
The Grand Prize Futurity Winner last October at the 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club National Specialty in Topeka, Kan., was the 17-month-old Best Junior, Perfex Cyclone Mahina (“Mimi”). The female Doberman is co-owned by Bob and Estelle Baron of Schaumburg, Ill., Nicole and David Baron of Montgomery, Ill., and breeder Michelle Perfect of Drummond, Tenn. Mimi was sired by CH Image Makers Hot Tropics, CD, out of CH Perfex Tornado Alley.
“The judges were looking for a dog that fits the breed standard,” says Nicole Baron, who handles Mimi. “Mimi fits the blueprint about as correctly as any dog can. She is the correct size and has proper balance and a beautiful front assembly. Everyone immediately notices how smooth she is when she walks into the ring.”

Lance
Best of Winners at 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club National Specialty
Capturing Best of Winners after being named Winners Dog last October at the 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club National Specialty in Topeka, Kan., was CH Irongate’s Winter Knight (“Lance”), a 22-month-old male Doberman co-owned by Roger and Eve Auch of Truckee, Calif., and Peter and Patty May of Sandy, Utah. Co-bred by Eve Auch and Patty May along with Eric Peterson of American Fork, Utah, Lance was sired by CH Irongate’s From This Moment On, CD, ROM, out of Irongate’s Inka Hoots.
“Lance is a true ambassador of the breed,” says Eve Auch. “We have raised him in a family environment and he goes along to our children’s soccer games. He is extremely bright and powerful.”
Having finished his conformation championship at the National, Lance is now working toward a Companion Dog (CD) obedience title with Eve Auch. He is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Shredded Blend Beef & Rice Formula.
Tango
Best of Opposite Sex at 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club National Specialty
Best of Opposite Sex last October at the 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club of America National Specialty in Topeka, Kan., went to the 20-month-old Winners Bitch, Steinway’s Last Tango in Paris. “Tango” is owned by Freddie Stark of Houston, and was bred by Melissa Loflin of Fort Worth, Texas, and Dr. Mona Fasth of Arvada, Colo. The sire is CH Image Makers Hot Tropics, and the dam is CH Gallant’s Paris v Ciden, NAJ, ROM. Gwen DeMilta of Downington, Pa., is the handler.
“The judging was quite competitive,” DeMilta says. “Tango and her half sister were vying for Best of Opposite. Tango moves beautifully. She conveys her breed type with her exquisite head, neck and front. She has incredible temperament, always giving 100 percent, and her style is very smooth and calm.”

Bubba
Best of Breed at 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club National Specialty
Winning Best of Breed from the Veteran Class last October at the 2008 Doberman Pinscher Club of America National Specialty in Topeka, Kan., was CH Star A-Cross Texas dob Mann (“Bubba”), a 7-year-old black male Doberman.
Thrilled to have won, Sheri Stulting of Houston, who co-owns Bubba with her husband, Elvis, says, “Bubba won the DPCA National in 2003 as a 2-year-old and continued on winning multiple Bests in Show. This win was quite a surprise and extremely special for us, coming as the Best Veteran. Bubba’s physical condition and his bone and muscle tone rivaled the competition of younger breed champions. He is appreciated for his temperament, ideal size, square body and beautiful movement around the ring.”
Bred by Edd and the late Irene Biven of Fort Worth, Texas, Bubba was sired by CH Ravenswood Southern Cross out of CH Embar’s Zena dob Mann. Teresa Nail of Dallas is the handler. Bubba is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula.
Reilly
Best in Sweepstakes at 2008 Siberian Husky Club of America National Specialty
An almost 1-year-old Siberian Husky female puppy, bred and owned by Thomas and Marie Kraus of Royal Star Siberians in Byron, Ill., won Best in Sweepstakes last October at the 2008 Siberian Husky Club of America (SHCA) National Specialty in Gettysburg, Pa.
Royal Star When It Rains Outperformed 120 puppies. She was sired by CH Playmor’s Full Throttle out of CH Royal Star Apostrophe Ess. The Royal Star Kennel has been breeding champion Siberian Huskies since 1980.
“’Reilly’ is a pleasure to show,” says Tom Kraus, the Krauses’ son who handles the dog in the ring. “She’s easygoing, energetic, natural and consistent in her style. Structurally, she’s extremely sound with a gorgeous head.”

Winner’s Bitch at 2008 German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America National Specialty
The Winner’s Bitch in October at the 2008 German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America (GWPCA) National Specialty in Lincoln, Neb., was 15-month-old Jay-Mar’s Thank God for Credit Cards, JH. “River” is breeder-owner-handled by Nikol Litwin of Arcadea, Calif. Sired by CH Jay-Mar Surefire’s Big Secret JH RN out of CH Jay-Mar’s Star Spangled Banner MH, River earned the first points toward her championship with the win.
“River certainly exemplifies the beauty and versatility of the breed,” Litwin says. “There were so many amazing dogs at the National Specialty, but I think they were looking for a dog that had the proper under coat and top coat, and she also decided she was going to show her heart out.”
River earned her Junior Hunter title when she was 8 months old, and is working toward her rally and agility titles. She is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Selects Natural Lamb & Brown Rice Formula.
Fritz
Best of Winners and Winners Dog at German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America National Specialty
The Best of Winners last October at the 2008 German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America (GWPCA) National Specialty in Lincolin, Neb., was a 14-month-old liver-and-white dog, Idawire Field of Dreams. “Fritz” is owned by Adam Cunningham of Aurora, Colo., and bred and handled by Jodi Quesnell of Sheridan, Wyo. He was sired by DC Jetset’s Ragtop Day at Scotia, CD, JH – the first Dual Champion/Best in Show winner in the breed – out of CH Idawire Zip A Dee Do Dah.
“Fritz may be young, but he definitely has all the right pieces,” Quesnell says. He has nice, clean movement and great balance.” Fritz is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Shredded Blend Natural Lamb & Rice Formula.

Ashley
Best of Opposite Sex at 2008 German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America National Specialty
The Best of Opposite Sex last October at the 2008 German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America (GWPCA) National Specialty in Lincolin, Neb., was a 5-year-old liver-and-white wirehair, CH Ebbtide’s From the Ashes (“Ashley”). Garnett Persinger of Conneautville, Pa., is the breeder-owner, and Howard Huber Jr. of Oxford, Pa., is the handler. Ashley was sired by CH Weidenhugel E. St. Shuffle, SH, out of CH Ebbtide Baycrest Spring Myth.
“Ashley is about as perfect as you can get to the standard,” Persinger says. “She’s well-balanced and has a gorgeous coat and spectacular head and front piece.”
The No. 1 German Wirehaired Pointer in all systems in 2007, Ashley was retired from conformation showing after the National Specialty. The wirehair is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Sensitive Skin & Stomach Formula.
Scout
Best of Breed at 2008 German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America National Specialty
A 2-year-old male German Wirehaired Pointer out of Ripsnoreter Kennels in Mount Vernon, Ohio, took Best of Breed last October at the 2008 German Wirehaired Pointer Club of America National Specialty in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Multi-BIS/BISS CH Ripsnorter Mountain View Lookout is also the No. 1 wirehair in all-breed competition. Known simply as “Scout” to breeder Helen Witt, the dog stood out in the ring for his excellent coat type. “A wirehair is distinguished by his coat,” Witt says. “Coat is very important. Scout has a coarse, tight coat that is exactly the way it is supposed to be. He also has beautiful movement, structure, reach and drive.”
Scout is co-owned by Witt’s husband, James, and Joyce Wilkinson of Manheim, Pa. He was co-bred by Claire and Kelly Wisch, both of Brunswick, Md.
Witt, who handles Scout, has bred German Wirehairs for more than 30 years, finishing more than 50 champions. The Witts stress versatility in their breeding and train their wirehairs to hunt. Scout is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula.



Bugsy
Winners Dog and Best in Futurity at 2008 German Shepherd Dog Club of America National Specialty
The Winners Dog and Best in Futurity winner last November at the 2008 German Shepherd Dog Club of America National Specialty in Beaumont, Texas, was Welove Du Cien’s Last Hurrah (“Bugsy”). The 16-month-old was co-bred by owner Jeffery Moebius of Kewaskum, Wis., along with Bob Eaton of Franksville, Wis., and Jane Kerner of Eagle, Wis. Bugsy was sired by CH Marquis’ Stealing the Show out of Welove DuChien’s Be All U Can. Kent Boyles of Edgerton, Wis., is the handler.
“Bugsy’s wins at the National were absolutely extraordinaray given his age,” Moebius says. “He is truly an excellent representative of a German Shepherd Dog.”

Diesel
Best of Breed at 2008 German Shepherd Club of America National Specialty
AM/CAN CH TRAFALGAR’s Full Throttle (“Diesel”) was named Best of Breed last November at the 2008 German Shepherd Dog Club of America National Specialty in Beaumont, Texas.
Bred and co-owned by Michael and Susan Cheeks of Chester Springs, Pa., the 2 ½-year-old male is also co-owned by Libby Cameron of Willard, N.C. Diesel is the first German Shepherd Dog in breed history to earn the titles of Canadian Grand Victor, Canadian Maturity Victor, American Grand Victor and American Maturity Victor. Diesel received the prestigious titles at three consecutive specialties in each country over a six-week period in 2008 after finishing his American Kennel Club and Canadian Kennel Club championships.
“This accomplishment is all the more astounding when you consider Diesel’s age and the fact that all the titles were earned within the same year,” says Michael Cheeks. “Diesel entered the Nationals in excellent physical condition and coat. His extreme side gait and powerful rear drive along with a strong topline made him a standout.”
Diesel was sired by Select Excellent CH Welove Du Chien’s Rollins, ROM, out of Select Excellent AM/CAN CH TRAFALGAR’s Pacific Chi. George Berstler of Philadelphia is the handler. He is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula.
JT
Judge’s Award of Merit at 2008 Staffordshire Terrier Club of America National Specialty
A 4-year-old male, BISS CH Absolute Allens Urban Cowboy (“JT”), received a Judge’s Award of Merit last October at the 2008 Staffordshire Terrier Club of America (STCA) National Specialty at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Mo. The No. 1 breeder-owner-handler-campaigned American Staffordshire Terrier in 2008, JT is shown by Michelle Aguillard of Eunice, La. JT is No. 2 in the breed overall and No. 5 in all-breed statistics.
Co-owners are Kenny Gonzales of Oklahoma City, Becky Knapp of Leadville, La., Shelly Allen of Cape Coral, Fla., and Dr. Gilbert Griffith of Prairieville, La. Co-bred by Heidi Burton of Lockhart, Texas, JT was sired by CH Absolute Partner in Crime out of CH Gang-Staff A Star is Born.

Best of Opposite Sex at 2008 Staffordshire Terrier Club of America National Specialty
Best of Opposite last October at the 2008 Staffordshire Terrier Club of America (STCA) National Specialty at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Mo., went to CH Gaff’s I’m Here For The Party (“Sally”), a 9-month-old bitch owned by Kim Nikon of Phoenix. Having won Winners Bitch at the Regional Specialty preceding the National, Sally finished at the National Specialty. Bred by Pam Carter of Worley, Idaho, Sally was sired by CH Benmars Ring Master out of Gaff’s Catherine Zeta. Stephen and Linn Cabral of Duarte, Calif., are the handlers.
“With her beautiful topline, tail and movement, Sally is very balanced and pretty much perfect,” Nikon says. “She has a lovely temperament and it shows when she is in the ring. People simply cannot miss her. She never places a foot wrong.”

Best of Breed at 2008 Staffordshire Terrier Club of America National Specialty
A 3-year-old mahogany brindle-and-white male American Staffordshire Terrier, CH Mystiks Dragon Heart (“Max”), was named Best of Breed last October at the 2008 Staffordshire Terrier Club of America (STCA) National Specialty held at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Mo.
“Max’s graceful movement is certainly what sets him apart from the competition,” says breeder-co-owner-handler Skip Loveless of Muscatine, Iowa. “Few dogs can move like Max. We were definitely ‘on’ at the National Specialty. When the judge pointed to him, the crowd exploded in applause.”

Winning Best of Opposite Sex in September at the Giant Schnauzer Club of America National Specialty was CH HiStyle’s Stone Crusher (“Flint”), who turned 2 the day of his National Specialty win. Shown as Special for just over three months, Flint already is ranked among the top 10 Giant Schnauzers.

Best of Breed at 2008 Giant Schnauzer Club of America National Specialty
Chosen as the Best of Breed winner from more than 100 dogs entered at the Giant Schnauzer Club of America (GSCA) National Specialty in September at Purina Farms was the No. 1 ranked show dog in the country, CH Galilee’s Pure of Spirit.
Best known to the public as “Spirit,” this 3-year-old bitch has won 52 Bests in Show and 100 Working Group Firsts, setting a breed record. Spirit exhibits “phenomenal temperament and a high drive to show that has set her apart from the very beginning,” says co-breeder Maryann Bisceglia of Gibsonia, Pa. “She is built beautifully.”
Spirit is owned by co-breeder Mary Hayes of Middleburg, Va., and Joe and Carla Sanchez of Murietta, Calif. She is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula.
Spirit was sired by CH Gloris Arizona Bill out of BIS/BISS CH Galilee’s Adeste Fidelis. Both Spirit’s dam and sire are exceptional. “Bill,” the sire, bred by Olga Seliverstova of Moscow, is the only Giant Schnauzer to earn four top European titles: World Champion, Champion of Europe, German National Champion and International Schnauzer Pinscher Union winner. Bill is a champion in 12 countries and the top-producing GSCA sire for the past two years. “Faith,” Spirit’s dam, is a GSCA top-producing dam, and she won Best of Breed at Westminster in 2004.
Spirit’s enthusiasm in the show ring is due to handler Taffe McFadden of Acampo, Calif., says Bisceglia. “Spirit picks her people. Taffe loves her, and they have an incredible rapport,” says Bisceglia.
Bisceglia, who has bred under the Ingebars prefix for 28 years, also bred the Best of Winners and Winners Dog. The Best of Winners was Ingebars Siasconset Rose, an 11-month-old female puppy co-owned by Bisceglia and Mike Reese of Forth Worth, Texas. The Winners Dog was Ingebars Prince of Darkness, a 2-year-old co-owned by Bisceglia and Rick Cali of Baldwin, N.Y.
Bisceglia and Hayes have co-bred Galilee Giant Schnauzers for eight years. They co-bred the High in Trial winner, Galilee Ingebar Inspiration, owned by Bridgette and Bernie Tuerler of Battleground, Wash.

First Judge’s Award of Merit at 2008 Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty
A 3-year-old male Golden, UKC/AKC CH Malagold’s Stone Sour, OA, OAJ, RA, CGC, was the First Judge’s Award of Merit winner in September at the Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty. Handled by breeder-owner Connie Gerstner Miller of Malagold Golden Retrievers in Kalamazoo, Mich., “Stoney” is co-owned by Miller’s daughter, Geri Gerstner Hart of Campbellsport, Wis., and Melissa Davis of Paw Paw, Mich. Stoney lives with Davis, who trains him for agility.
Sired by Ch Malagold’s Toast to Davenport out of Malagold’s Mimosa, Stoney’s pedigree includes Goldens from the Dewmist Kennels near Stockholm, Sweden. “Stoney is more blond than we are used to seeing in this country,” says Miller, who has bred Goldens for 48 years and who won her first National Specialty in 1970. “He also is fuller through the head and body, more of an English-style Golden. He has tremendous ring presence.”

Best Puppy at 2008 Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty
Winning Best Puppy from the 6-to-9 Month Puppy Bitch Class in September at the Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty was Wylwind Sin City Showstopper. “Vegas” was co-bred and co-owned by Ruth and Bruce Wylie of Delaware, Ohio. She was sired by CH Hytree’s Ryd-N-Out The Storm, SDHF, OS, out of CH Gangway Wylwind Say Goodnite.
“Vegas is a little pistol and very full of herself,” says Ruth Wylie, who handled the puppy. The Wylies, who have bred Goldens since 1976, feed Vegas Purina Pro Plan brand Chicken & Rice Puppy Formula.
Treasure
Trifecta Winner at 2008 Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty
In a single sweep, CH Toasty’s Treasure Island, the No. 1 Golden Retriever in the country, set a breed record, winning the “trifecta”
at the Golden Retriever Club of America (GRCA) National Specialty in September. More than 700 Goldens, including 100 Specials, competed at the National Specialty.
The trifecta consists of the parent club’s top three honors – the Top Twenty Award, People’s Choice Award and Best of Breed. The Top Twenty Award was decided by three judges – a Golden Retriever breeder, Golden Retriever judge and Sporting Group judge; the top 20 Goldens in breed and all-breed competition are eligible to compete. The audience voted for the People’s Choice Award. Judge Gloria Kerr of Sahuarita, Ariz., selected “Treasure” as the Best of Breed winner.
“Treasure just floats around the ring,” says handler Clint Livingston of San Antonio. “She’s consistent, no matter what. The timing of her gait is perfect. Judges always comment about it. Her conformation and proportions are ideal.”
The 4-year-old bitch is co-owned by breeders Jerry and Pam Oxenberg of Boca Raton, Fla., Carolee Douglas of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jane Bates of Montgomery, Texas. Treasure was sired by CH Happy Hour Highmark Toasty out of CH Toasty’s Josie.
Treasure has won several breed Specialties, including the Western and Central Regional GRCA Specialties, and five Bests in Show. She also won Best of Breed at Westminster this year. She is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula.
Pam Oxenberg recalls choosing Treasure as a 5-week-old puppy. “From the beginning, Treasure had an outgoing personality and quick intelligence. My husband and I easily agreed she was the one we would keep. She loves to please, and it shows.”
The Oxenbergs first won the GRCA National Specialty 22 years ago with CH Toasty’s Royal Mercedes, OD, SDHF, a distant granddam in Treasure’s pedigree. Treasure’s paternal granddam, CH Briarwood My Hi Flyin Legend, OD, won Best of Breed at the 1999 National Specialty.

Best in Futurity at 2008 American Rottweiler Club National Specialty
The Best in Futurity winner in May at the American Rottweiler Club National Specialty was Woodrott’s Belle of the South, a 6-month-old female puppy who was selected from 60 entries. Bred by Peggy Wood of Mechanicsville, Va., and Barbara Klotz of Richmond, Va., “Belle” was sired by CH Bernkastel B’Mer out of CH Woodrott Abbaz Perfectly Wicked.

Best of Breed at 2008 American Rottweiler Club National Specialty
A 3-year-old male Rottweiler sired by the top-producing male in history won Best of Breed in May at the American Rottweiler Club (ARC) National Specialty. BIS/Multi-BISS National Select 1 CH Gamegards Chisum, who closely resembles his famous sire, outperformed 259 Rotties to win top honors.
Bred by co-owners Victoria Weaver of Greensboro, Md., and Pamela Marsh of Dakota City, Neb., along with Robin Haden of Chicago, “Chisum” was sired by V-1 Sieger Multi-BIS/BISS Select CH Gamegards U.S. Marshall RN, CGC (“Cahill”) out of CH Fullhaus A Cha Cha v Gamegards. Both Chisum and Cahill made the final cut and were vying for Best of Breed.
Shown sparingly, both Gamegards male Rotties have impressive records. Chisum took Best in Show in July at the 898-entry Duluth (Minn.) Kennel Club Dog Show. He has four Bests in Specialty Show, five Bests of Breed, and five Group placements, including three Group Firsts.
Cahill, who is 7 years old, won Best Veteran Dog and Best Stud Dog at the ARC National Specialty. The sire of 100 champion offspring, Cahill was named the top-producing all-breed sire in 2007, a first for the Rottweiler breed.
Both housedogs, Chisum and Cahill live with Marsh. In choosing Chisum as a puppy, Marsh says, “I just knew he was the one. He stands out for his well-defined markings and very black eyes and mouth. Chisum has a beautiful rear, wonderful front assembly and moves effortlessly.
“Chisum and Cahill are best buddies. They are together all the time. They are extremely affectionate and loving. We could not be more fortunate.”

ASCOB Best of Variety at 2008 American Spaniel Club Cocker Spaniel Summer National Specialty
The ASCOB (Any Solid Color Other Than Black) Best of Variety winner was CH Somerset’s Sweet Talkin’ Girl (“Charm”), who also took ASCOB Best in Futurity and Best of Winners in July from the 9-to-12 Month Puppy Class at the American Spaniel Club Cocker Spaniel Summer National Specialty. Bred and owned by Laurie Ferland of Pittsfield, Maine, Charm was handled by Mike Pitts of Knoxville, Tenn. The 10-month-old Cocker finished her championship at the show.
Charm’s littermate sister, CH Somerset’s Sweeten The Pot (“Kitty”), a black Cocker, was selected as the Best in Futurity winner. Kitty also took Best of Winners in the Black Variety. Owned by breeder Ferland, Kitty, who was handled by Linda Pitts, also finished her championship at this show.
Charm and Kitty were sired by Bubba, the sire of Best of Breed High D’Ho. “This litter was very consistent,” Ferland says. “At five weeks, they exhibited the quality and potential I expected. They are very true to type and possess the sportiness I want in my Cockers without sacrificing the femininity and elegance I like in bitches.”

Best of Opposite Sex at 2008 American Spaniel Club Cocker Spaniel Summer National Specialty
The Parti-Color Best of Variety winner, Multi-BISS CH B-Mac N Lil People Ragin Cajun (“BJ”), won Best of Opposite Sex in July at the American Spaniel Club Cocker Spaniel Summer National Specialty. Co-bred by Betty McClendon of Rosenberg, Texas, and Teresa Pascal of Takoma Park, Md., the 3-year-old male Cocker is owned by Beate Pruitt of Minden, La., and McClendon. Per Rismyhr of Granby, Conn., is the handler.
“BJ has the biggest heart I have ever seen in a show dog,” Pruitt says. “He will always try to give you 110 percent, no matter what. He is the total package – a true sporting dog with correct breed type.”

Best of Breed at 2008 American Spaniel Club Cocker Spaniel Summer National Specialty
Representing the sixth generation of champion Silverhall Cocker Spaniels, CH Silverhall Seductive (“Cher”) won Best of Breed in July at the American Spaniel Club (ASC) Cocker Spaniel Summer National Specialty.
More than 280 dogs competed for the honor that was bestowed on the 18-month-old black-and-tan Cocker Spaniel bred and owned by Wilson and Bonnie Pike of Durham, N.H. Cher, the Black Best of Variety winner, was handled by Wilson Pike.
Sired by CH Coldry’s Sweet Sensation (“Bubba”) out of CH Silverhall Seventh Heaven, Cher was one of four puppies in the litter. She is one of three finished champions; the fourth littermate is close to finishing. A well-known sire, Bubba also produced the Black Variety Winners Bitch and the Any Solid Color Other Than Black (ASCOB) Best of Variety and Best of Winners.
“Cher has her sire’s outgoing attitude and easy temperament,” says Bonnie Wilson. “She is structurally correct and has free-flowing, proper Cocker Spaniel movement. She is an all-around correct Cocker Spaniel.”
An early standout, Cher won Winners Bitch from the 6-to-9 Month Puppy Class at the 2007 ASC Summer National Specialty. More recently, Cher won Best of Breed at the Niagara Cocker Spaniel Club Specialty and back-to-back Sporting Group Firsts at the Tonawanda Valley Kennel Club Dog Shows in Albion, N.Y. Best of Breed at 2008 American Boxer Club National Specialty
A 3-year-old Japanese-bred brindle bitch, CH Dramatic Story of Sherry Shoot JP, won Best of Breed in May at the American Boxer Club National Specialty. “Jane” outperformed more than 550 Boxers.
Bred by owner M. Hanabusa of Japan, Jane is also co-owned by Dr. and Mrs. William Truesdale of Seekonk, Mass. The sire, CH High-Tech Johnny J Boxerton, is a three-time National Specialty Best of Breed and stud dog winner. The dam is a Japanese bitch, Appea Line of Sherry Shoot JP.
Jane was handled by Kimberly Pastella-Calvacca of Westbury, N.Y., who also handled her sire “Johnny” for the Truesdales. At the 2007 National Specialty, her first American dog show, Jane captured Winners Bitch. She went on to finish her championship with three back-to-back majors and Group Firsts.
“Jane is the overall package,” Pastella-Calvacca says. “She’s a beautiful Boxer in type who excels in movement.”

A 10-month-old black Toy Poodle bitch, Smash JP Mamamia, won the Toy Best of Variety in April at the Poodle Club of America National Specialty. Bred and owned by Yukiko Omura of the famed Smash Kennels in Fuji, Japan, “Mamamia” is the first black Toy Poodle Omura has campaigned in the United States.
“Smash has been breeding and showing blacks for years, but they were based in English lines, which are too big to be shown in the United States. It has taken Yukiko 10 years to produce a black toy to campaign here,” says Kaz Hosaka, who handled Mamamia.

Best of Variety at 2008 Poodle Club of America National Specialty
The Miniature Poodle Best of Variety winner at the Poodle Club of America National Specialty in April was CH Surrey Sweet Spice (“Jamie”). The 2-year-old black bitch’s dam, CH Surrey Spice Girl, won Best in Show at Westminster in 2002. Bred by Kaz Hosaka of Greenwood, Del., and owned by Ron Scott and Debbie Burke of Dillsburg, Pa., Jamie also won Best of Variety earlier this year at Westminster.
“Jamie is the fifth generation of all-breed Best in Show winners, which is really remarkable,” says Hosaka.

Best of Breed at 2008 Poodle Club of America National Specialty
A 5-year-old black Standard Poodle bitch, CH Randenn Tristar Affirmation (“Yes”), sired by longtime top producer CH Eaton Affirmed (“Snapper”) in a frozen semen breeding, was named Best of Breed in April at the Poodle Club of America National Specialty. More than 640 Poodles competed for the honor.
Breeders Dennis McCoy and Randy Garren, both of Apex, N.C., persisted in breeding their bitch, CH Randenn Tres Chic, to Snapper though the first attempt using quarter-century-old semen failed; the second try was successful. Co-breeders are Joe and Joan Lacey of New York. Toni and Martin Sosnoff of New York are the owners.
“Yes was a singleton puppy from one of the last vials of Snapper’s frozen semen,” says handler Timothy Brazier of Bothel, Wash., owner of Snapper. “Only a few sperm were viable. Dennis and Randy were determined to breed to Eaton Affirmed.”
The winner of 68 Bests in Show and 16 Specialty Bests of Breed, Yes is ranked No. 1 in the Non-Sporting Group. She won the Non-Sporting Group at the 2007 AKC National Championship and received Awards of Merit this year at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and in 2007 at the PCA National Specialty. Longhaired Variety Best of Opposite Sex at 2008 Dachshund Club of America National Specialty
CH Briardach’s Uncle Sam won best of Opposite Sex in the Longhaired Dachshund Variety in April at the Dachshund Club of America National Specialty. Co-owned by breeders Monika and Paul Martin of Marshall, Va., and Janine Finnell of Arlington, Va., Monika Martin handled the 2-year-old red standard dog. Sired by CH Walmar’s Casanova out of CH Briardach’s Garden Party, “Sam” is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula.

Best of Opposite Sex at 2008 Dachshund Club of America National Specialty
Capturing Best of Opposite Sex to the Best of Breed winner at the Dachshund Club of America National Specialty in April was a 4-year-old red standard Longhaired bitch, CH Solo’s Drag Queen. More than 400 Dachshunds took part in the National Specialty.
The Longhaired Best of Variety winner, known as “Morgan,” was owner-handled by Carlos Puig of Round Lake, Ill. Wayne L. Heikes of St. Michael, Minn., is the co-owner. Bred by Paula Carter of Oakdale, La., Morgan was sired by CH Homar’s Havana Joe out of CH Seidach’s White Diamonds.
“Even as a puppy, Morgan was the ‘show dog’ of the litter, always pushing her way through her littermates to be the one in the limelight,” says Carter. “Puig brought out every ounce of her potential.”
Earlier this year at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, Morgan placed second in the Hound Group. Ranked No. 1 in all systems and consistently ranked among the top 10 hounds in 2007, Morgan is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula.
Launa
Best of Opposite Sex at 2008 Colonial Rottweiler Club Specialty
Winning Best of Opposite Sex in April at the Colonial Rottweiler Club Specialty was the Best Veteran Bitch, CH Cammcastle’s Quantum Leap Year. Bred by owner Suzan Otto of Toms Brook, Va., “Launa” was handled by Michelle Starry of Latrobe, Pa. Doreen Tietjan handled Launa to her Best of Opposite Sex win.
Launa is shown occasionally and had not been shown since the 2007 Rottweiler Club of America National Specialty. Otto says she brought the 8-year-old to the Specialty “to have a good time.”
“Launa’s showmanship is pretty marvelous,” Otto says. “She really puts herself out there. She has wonderful breed type and temperament.”
Launa was sired by CH Crystal’s Topaz v Ponca, CD, out of CH Cammcastle’s Hazmat v Ironwood. She is fed Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula.

Best of Breed at 2008 Colonial Rottweiler Club Specialty
A semi-retired, 5-year-old show dog, Multi-BIS/BISS AM/CAN CH Avatar Luck of the Draw, CDX, RN, outperformed more than 150 Rotties to win Best of Breed in April at the Colonial Rottweiler Club Specialty.
Owner Patty Terrio of Hartland, Mich., describes “Ace,” her first show dog, as “the smartest dog I’ve ever owned.” Breeders Johann Emedi and Roxanne Robertson, both of Charlotte, Mich., and Debbie Uren of Metamora, Mich., brought Ace to Terrio two years after her husband, Dr. Bruce Terrio, commented that he wanted a beautiful dog. At his first weekend dog shows as a 9-month-old, Ace garnered three majors.
Ace was sired by CH Von Boylan Antonio Banderas, and the dam is CH Von Drivers No Speed Limit. The Best of Breed winner at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2007, Ace received Awards of Merit at Westminster in 2005, 2006 and 2008. In 2006, he was the No. 1 Rottweiler in all-breed competition.
Besides excelling in conformation, Ace is a certified therapy dog who performs safety demonstrations at elementary schools and is a certified hearing service dog. He has his first rally title, as well as his Companion Dog Excellent obedience title. Ace is fed a combination of Purina Pro Plan brand Performance Formula and Purina Pro Plan brand Chicken & Rice Formula.

Best of Breed at the 2006 Greater Swiss Mountain Dog (GSMDCA) National Specialty
Multi BIS/Multi BISS CH Red Fern’s Beau Derby NWPD (“Spot”) won Best of Breed at the 2006 Greater Swiss Mountain Dog (GSMDCA) National Specialty in August, becoming the first Swissy to win the National Specialty two consecutive years.

Handled by Wendi Cowell of Knoxville, Tenn., Spot is owned by Alan McFadden and Debbie Echols of Philadelphia, Tenn. The 4-year-old dog was co-bred by Debbie and Jerry Kennedy of Clarksville, Ind., and Kristin Kleeman of Georgetown, Ky. He was sired by CH Derby’s Ivan the Hoss out of AM/INT CH Rina Derby’s Jolee Con Trall ROM HIT.
Lacey
Best of Breed at the Borzoi Club of America National Specialty
Multi BIS/Multi BISS CH Soyara’s Chantilly Lace JC (“Lacey”), an 8-year-old white-and-black female Borzoi, came out of retirement to outperform 241 dogs and capture Best of Breed at the Borzoi Club of America National Specialty last May.

Lacey also took Best of Opposite Sex in the Veteran Sweepstakes and was the No. 1 Futurity Brood Bitch. Co-owned by Prudence and Dr. Gregory Hlatky of Morrow, Ohio, Lacey is handled by Prudence Hlatky. Co-bred by Prudence Hlatky and Sabrina Rhodes of Detroit, Lacey was sired by Westminster breed winner CH Rossak of Enfield out of CH Soyara Misleading Lady Esar ROM-C.
